Carpenter Bees

Carpenter Bee Identification

Carpenter bees are often mistaken for the bumblebee. While carpenter bees also have the signature black and yellow look, they do not have the fuzzy bodies that bumblebees do. Rather, they have a hairless abandon that is sleek and shiny.

These bees are considered much less harmful because only the females have stingers, and they rarely use them in defense. Carpenter bees may not pose a threat to you, but your wooden outdoor spaces may not receive the same treatment.

Like carpenter ants, carpenter bees burrow into soft wooden structures, including decks, porches, and doors. If these surfaces are unpainted, there is a greater chance that is the surface they will target.
